Veeence, was able to make an amazing interview with Geohot via the irc chat, he talked with Geohot about some major items concerning the jailbreak and unlock for the current iOS devices running iOS 4.2.1, now let's see this amazing interview after the jump.

Some good news, Andrea Cervone over iPhoneItalia was able to contact with Comex (the hacker behind JailbreakMe and Spirit), he asked him whether he will preserve his untethered jailbreak until Verizon releases iPhone 4 which will be powered by iOS 4.2.5 ? Let's see how Comex replied him
Andrea Cervone asking: So, if Apple releases iOS 4.2.5 on 10 February, you’ll preserver your new tool and exploits for that firmware? Maybe this will be a good move. Dev Team and Chronic Dev are releasing their tools for iOS 4.2.1, your can be saved for the future too.

A long time to wait.
So, it's now clear that Comex has moved back about his last ETA (estimate to arrival) for his untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 as it was related to iOS 4.3 (or iOS 4.2.5) official release. Anyway let's wait and see. Stay tunes

The iPhone Dev Team has just
released another
update for Redsn0w 0.9.7 to fix Skype issues on iOS device. Redsn0w 0.9.7b6 is available for Mac OS X users only and in next version, the target will be adding
iOS 4.1 monte so you don't need to pirate iOS 4.2b3 to allow untethered jailbreak on
iOS 4.2.1.
The sixth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version fixes Skype. Please do not pirate the 4.2b3 IPSW! Only those enrolled in the iPhone Developer program have legitimate access to that IPSW using these links (http://pastie.org/1403214) (the links won’t work unless you’re a legit developer currently logged in).
Unlike the last few betas, you can freely run beta6 over beta5 without a problem (but for testing purposes, we’d really like people to try both ways….from stock, and from already jailbroken).
Now that the sandbox, Bluetooth, and Skype issues are fixed, our next priority is porting Monte back to 4.1. We’ll also try to make the Windows version less painfully slow.

Earlier today, Cydia started saving SHSH blobs of
iOS 4.2.1 on new-generation devices only since I couldn't see the SHSH blobs on my iPhone 3G but it's been saved on iPhone 4. This happens because you'll get the
untethered jailbreak after few hours !
This may be useful to get the untethered jailbreak. To save SHSH blobs of iOS 4.2.1, just tap on Cydia from your new-generation iOS device and hit on the
Make my life easier button to save your blobs immediately.
For those who don't know, the iPhone Dev Team will release
untethered Redsn0w 0.9.6b7 jailbreak for
iOS 4.2.1 or what's known by the backup plan today. We'll of course be posting this as soon as it's available for download and will be back with full how-to guides quickly. Stay tuned !

I know that most of your are waiting eagerly for the
untethered jailbreak solution on
iOS 4.2.1 for new-generation iOS devices. As most of you know, the iPhone Dev Team already has the
backup plan to achieve iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak for Christmas Eve.
Just a few minutes ago, the
iPhone Dev Team has
confirmed the release of untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak for the Christmas Eve and asking for Mac OS X owners to help them with testing the the backup plan.
Over the Christmas weekend we’ll be releasing a version of redsn0w that implements the “backup plan” to the 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak. We’re seeking your help to test this redsn0w and find any bugs before we do a general release!
(If you have an iPhone 3G, or an old-bootrom ipt2g or iPhone 3GS, you already have an untethered jailbreak! Just use the latest public redsn0w.)
To keep things manageable, this will be a Mac-only test program. We also request that any volunteers *NOT* need the ultrasn0w unlock (in case things go very wrong).
Right now, the “backup plan” requires that you have the 4.2b3 IPSW on your Mac, and that Cydia has your 4.2b3 SHSH hashes. Please don’t pirate that 4.2b3 IPSW! (We’re also working on a way that this technique might apply to all those with 4.1 IPSWs, but that’s not the first goal right now.)
To survive in this, you must be a Mac owner, got iOS 4.2 beta 3 SHSH blobs on your Mac or that Cydia has your 4.2b3 SHSH hashes that was automatically saved (in the status bar), and have a new-generation iOS device (i.e. iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod 4G, 3G).

redsn0w_testers on Twitter and give the
Dev-Team a comment in
this post to get the backup plan right now ! Let us know how does it go with you. Also stay tuned for a Christmas launch for public.
You may don't need to restore or re-jailbreak your device to get the new iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak, according to
this tweet from Comex. This means that you'll not need to install Redsn0w and use it to get the untethered jailbreak, it should be added a Cydia package on some repository like BigBoss or ModMyi on Cydia.
comex: it's probably going to be a Cydia package. if I can get it to work.
However, comex's untethered jailbreak is
delayed and won't be released by the
Christmas Eve so you have to take in mind that the iPhone Dev Team has it's
own backup plan that requires iOS 4.2 beta 3 SHSH blobs to be able to get the untethered jailbreak. More updates as they come ! Stay tuned !

Comex has
promised the iOS community with
iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak to launch before the Christmas but
this tweet from Comex means that nothing is going to be released by the Christmas, i.e. we may not see that untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 by this Christmas. Though keep the hopes up!
Yeah, don't forget that the iPhone Dev Team
already has the
backup plan and may be merged with Redsn0w to bring
1-click untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. Comex's userland-jailbreak may take longer. Anyway, stay tuned for more updates as they come !

Just two weeks ago, Comex, the developer behind JailbreakMe and Spirit jailbreak tools has
confirmed the arrival of
userland untethered jailbreak for
iOS 4.2.1 to be released on Christmas.
Today, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has confirmed the same. In a
deleted tweet spotted by
RedmondPie claims that a untethered
jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 is indeed in works, and that it will be ready for prime-time use somewhere around Christmas.

Early this morning, the iPhone Dev Team showed off a quick
video demonstration for something called backup plan which doesn't waste exploits but this method requires more time to make it work on all devices on iOS 4.2.1.

As most of you know, comex is currently
working on an untethered solution for
jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1, but today, the
iPhone Dev Team has
unveiled one of the many their plans! They got up their sleeves with a backup plan for an untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak for all devices.
As they have mentioned, this is not a new exploit, it’s a ‘backup plan’ as comex is working on a more extensible one, but this method is also generalizable. The method only works if you have already saved SHSH blobs of your iOS device. Anyway, take a look at the video demo below and stay tuned as more updates come!
